This is Sam again. For some reason my posts come up as being created by Heather, instead of me. Not sure why, but oh well.
Today is the 4th of July. A day to celebrate the birthday of our country, the United States of America. It's been a pretty low-key day for my family. We haven't done anything spectacular. Did a little cleaning and just relaxed. However, we have had an eventful weekend playing a sport I never imagined my family getting in to...wiffleball. Everyone in the family, except for Erin (we've told her she's playing just as soon as the baby is born) has been playing this intense sport for the past three nights.
It started out as a friendly game on the side of my parents house. That game did not last long, because houses were taking the brunt of our hitting. So, we adjourned the game until the next night, Sunday night, only we headed out to Erin and Justin's house. They live in the country where the yard is spacious enough for this game. After church on Sunday night, the Bentley's and the Wahl's (which included Justin's mom, dad, and sister, Kaitlin) attempted to play this game again. There was a cool breeze that night along with a few sprinkles to keep us cool enough to run the bases. Much excitement happened that night. Rhonda, Justin's mom, wiped out just before reaching third base, but managed to inch her way forward in order to not be tagged out. There were a few home runs made, faces hit by the ball, and water thrown that night to entertain us. Actually, the only person really being entertained by all of this is Erin. She's not playing right now, so she's our scorekeeper. She has the priviledge of watching us all make fools out of ourselves. Sunday night's game ended with a score of 20-18. Teams were divided guys against girls. We started the game shortly before 8 and ended around 9:30pm.
The women decided after Sunday night's game that they wanted a rematch. So, Monday night we all headed to the White Hall parade, watched the numerous entries pass us by and then went to Randy and Rhonda's for our rematch. However, this game got started a lot later than the night before. We ate supper and started the game about 9:45pm. Keep it mind, it's dark at this time of night. Rhonda had spraypainted squares in the yard to make the bases and homeplate. Justin moved his car to one section of the "ball diamond" and Randy parked his truck diagonal from his car on the opposite side. Then they turned their headlights on. Talk about redneck wiffleball! But it served the purpose we needed in order to play until 11pm. The women were ahead for quite some time with a score of 14-6. Somehow, the guys came back and beat us with a final score of 20-19. It was so close! We're looking forward to the next game, but I think I can speak for everyone when I say that my body is welcoming the rest from running around the bases three nights in a row. I am definitely feeling the pain! Heather has some pictures on her camera. Maybe sometime she'll post them on here with the story and you can see just how ridiculous we look, but how much fun we're having! We're even thinking of putting together teams and making a league out of it. Even designing t-shirts!!
